From andrea06 at uni-potsdam.de Thu Jan 26 19:07:00 2017 From: andrea06 at uni-potsdam.de (Andreas Schmidt) Date: Thu, 26 Jan 2017 19:07:00 +0100 Subject: [Ling-ATL-MSc] New MM2/MM7 course in February 2017 Message-ID: New Bsc/Msc syntax course (AM2/AM10/AM11; MM2/MM7; WPB – 6LP) at the end of WiSe16/17 Title: Uralic syntax and morphology (deutsche Beschreibung unten) Date: 20.02.2017 - 24.02.2017 (~10:15 to ~16:00 each day) The Uralic (= Finno-Ugric + Samoyed) languages exhibit a plethora of interesting phenomena in syntax and morphology absent from the well-studied languages of Europe. The phenomena discussed in this course include (i.a.) the expression of negation through negation verbs, the rich inventory of non-finite subordination, the case system, the syntax and semantics of possessive suffixes, word order variation and variability, and agglutinative morphology in general. This way, the horizon of what's syntactically possible among languages will be widened (as envisioned for syntax courses by Martin Haspelmath). In addition to merely acquainting onself with the description of these phenomena, formal analyses will be applied to them as well. As such, the course is eligible for both WPB and syntax modules (AM2/AM10/AM11; MM2/MM7). The course assessment will, if desired, consist of a project + protocol (= not-an-essay). The idea is that the Wikipedia articles for the smaller Uralic languages need some attention. The enrollment for the course via PULS is already available: https://puls.uni-potsdam.de/qisserver/rds?state=verpublish&status=init&vmfile=no&publishid=59374&moduleCall=webInfo&publishConfFile=webInfo&publishSubDir=veranstaltung If you're interested but the date just won't fit, please send a mail to Andreas Schmidt: andrea06 at uni-potsdam.de Titel: Uralische Syntax und Morphologie Zeitraum: 20.02.2017 - 24.02.2017 (jeden Tag ~10:15 bis ~16:00) Die Sprachen der uralischen (= finno-ugrischen + samoyedischen) Sprachfamilie weisen eine Vielzahl syntaktischer und morphologischer Phänomene auf, die den vielerforschten Sprachen Europas fremd sind.
